Also, alle Deutsche, Verzeihung! Jetzt, auf Englisch…
What the Hell is he doing now you ask? I know, I can hear you all muttering, especially you, Steven Brookes. I'm just showing off, really. And no doubt, I'll get emails from Outraged of Osnabruck, Koncerned of Köln and Mortified of Münster complaining about my ratty German and how I've tortured the German language to a point beyond all belief, but, I'll live with that. Anyway, I'm not deleting it now. It has taken me ages to remember that much German!
So, what about the gig? How was DEMON's return to the Rotkehlchen? Funny you should ask, I was just about to tell you when you raised the point. You remember I said I would tell you the truth about DEMON? Well, here it is. They played a show that was not perfect! Notes got a bit outta whack from time to time and Dave "the mobile wrecking crew" Hill forgot a line or two. So they were crap, right? You'da thunk it wouldn't you? Nah-ah! They were triumphant at the Robin.
You see, that's what DEMON is about. Emotion. Feeling. Playing Live. Sometimes, you cock up but it doesn't matter. Hell, some of the best gigs I've ever been to were the best because the humanity, the people, the feeling, came through. Some of the worst gigs I've been to were technically perfect but as boring as Shifnal (Look, we might want to play there again, lay off Shropshire, OK. - Mike Stone). That said, we were treated to some splendid moments. Dave materialised among the assembled throng for the encore - Night of the Demon (Armand Van Helden twisted entrails megamix). People were boogying their sneakers away, with much vim and vigour (and no that does not imply that they were snorting household cleaning products!) and, there were several audience-participation numbers. At one point, because there was so much off-stage trilling, Dave even turned the mic to the masses - you would have thought they were selling birdseed behind the bar!
The usual suspects were in the set: Sunderland, No More Hell than Shifnal (Oops, sorry!), Wife on the Fire, Don't Join the Circus, Big Chance (OK so that wasn't there but someone other than me shouted for it!) and that all-time classic The Plague. I always used to love that bit at the beginning of Fantasy Island where Tattoo would give the band a name-check:" Look Boss, The Plague, The Plague".
I have it on good authority, from a source very close to the band, that once they have played Wacken, this weekend, there will be some changes to the live set. Some old favourites will stay, Big Chance will come in and maybe, if you promise to come along to the gigs, and be very good, just maybe, some brand new material. Now, I can't think of a better reason to go to see them than that - apart from the fact that, right about now, THEY ARE THE BEST GODDAMN LIVE BAND IN THE WORLD!
Have a good show in Germany guys. See you when you get back.
