Download 2004: Hoobastank - Donington 6th June 2004

It’s not right, I tell you; we’ll be plagued with bat-winged monkeys, three-headed serpents and another term of Blairite rule. It’s just going against everything that is natural and good. Of course, I’m talking about the fact that I enjoyed Hoobastank.
I really did think they were good and, judging from how far away from the stage we were, so did the thousands of other people who made the three-hour trek across Leicestershire, to see them on the 8-tit stage.
It is quite refreshing, in this day and age where image and spin is more important than talent and substance, to see a band aimed at the younger generation that can actually perform live. What’s more, the band can play, the songs are catchy and listenable, and the singer can sing.
Now, I have to admit that the only thing I know about Hoobastank is that the singer is the brother of some guy in another band but, their Download performance has made me want to hear more. It may be unnatural when a parent likes their kids choice of music, and a pre-cursor to the end of the universe but, dagnabbit, I liked Hoobastank. Now, I think its time I sacked the kids’ CD collections, like they do mine…
