Fachingsdienstag Munich - 16th February 2010

Every year around this time, in the UK, we eat pancakes. In Germany they gorge themselves on Krapfen (doughnuts) and, in Munich, get half a day off to congregate in Marienplatz and Karlsplatz, drink as much beer as they can, throw confetti at each other, and dress up in silly outfits.
If that wasn't sufficient lunacy, all the gay men dress in drag and parade through the city centre. That is Fasching.
I'm not quite sure what it has to do with religion, but there you go. It is quite a sight for sore eyes though.
