Garmisch - November 14th 2009

As for Garmisch, well, I’m not saying it isn’t lovely, and all, it is. Very picturesque and there’s loads of scenery, and mountains, and stuff. But, I’m not an outdoorsy, skiing, hiking kind of guy, so it’s all wasted on me, quite frankly. Once you’ve seen one mountain, a lake, some cows, and some snow, it all looks the same. Sorry, but it does. Leave it to the lonely goat herds, I say.
The best thing about Garmisch for me was that, a) I bought a couple of very nice fleeces from the Jack Wolfskin shop there and, b) we had a drink at a hostelry where not only could you get a bier, you could also buy your meat products too. I was sitting there, enjoying my Helles, when I noticed that men kept walking out of the door clutching joints of meat, kielbasas, cold cuts, and a variety of pork products that I have no names for. I was intrigued, I must admit. Apparently, in these parts, it is not uncommon for a Bierstub’n and Schmankerlhaus to be one and the same place. Sounds fair enough to me. I wonder if they sell cheese too? I could live in a place like that. Hell, I’d never need to venture outdoors, ever, if I did.
Oh, yeah, they had the Winter Olympics here sometimeorother in the past, and they ski and do other snow-related stuff too. Yeah. OK. Can we go home now?
