Gary Moore - Tollwood Festival Olympiapark Munich 8th July 2009

Setlist: Oh Pretty Woman / Bad For You Baby / Down The Line / Since I Met You Baby / All Your Love / I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know / Too Tired / Walking By Myself // The Blues Is Alright /// Spanish Intro/Parisienne Walkways
The first time I saw Gary Moore live was with his band G-Force in 1979 or ‘80. The last time I saw Gary Moore live was, I think 1981, when he was playing with Greg Lake on the tour to support the latter’s first solo album. That was an amazing gig. I even blagged my way on to the tour bus and met Greg and Gary; I still have a signed album sleeve somewhere. I also met him again at a gig in London, in the bar of The Rainbow. I may have caught him again somewhere over the years, but can’t for the life of me remember where. As a blues guitarist he is almost as legendary as many of those whose music he has covered. He has played with practically all of the legends of the Blues. His reputation is unimpeachable as one of the greatest blues guitarists ever.
I was really ready for this.
And, I haven’t been so disappointed for a long, long time.
I wasn’t expecting White Knuckles, or Intergalactic Strut, or even Nuclear Attack, but I was expecting more than Gary delivered.
Ironically, I was enjoying it for the first nine songs. Then, he said goodnight and left the stage. Back for one short encore then, gone again. Back for ten interminable minutes of Parisienne Snoreways then, gone for good. One hour fifteen minutes from soup to nuts. No encore with Eric Burdon, nothing.
Just not headline material, sorry. Had he been the support act, I would have been happy with that, but it was his gig. Fans deserve better than that.
