Manchester - The Trafford Centre 25th January 2011
Whoever designed this should be locked away for crimes against taste. It's bloody horrible. It looks like it was designed by Jade Goody, Homer Simpson, and Barbie, and fitted out from Liberace's House of Crap with leftover sets from some '50s Ray Harryhausen movie. It is everything I hate. I have no problem with shopping malls, per se, they serve a purpose, but this is just so wrong on so very many levels.
Apparently, this £750M eyesore is something of a triumph for owners, The Peel Group, who it seems, believe that the Rococo/late Baroque 'striking and extrovert architecture is aimed at providing visual delight to make visitors shopping experience more vivid and interesting.' More vomit-inducing, if you ask me.
Portraits running around the top of the walls of the mall depict members of the Whittaker family, founders of owner Peel Holdings. Yeah, that's not at all freakish?! But, judge for yourselves...
