The Rockshield Festival - Burton-on-Trent 22nd September 2001

I snap Mike Stone taking a picture of Demon
Oh Sparky, what can one say about the wonderful day out at the Rockshield Festival, on Saturday?
Oh, I'm sure you'll think of something, Your Colossus…
Too right, my little PORG!
First and foremost, in spite of the attempts of the local council officials, organiser Sam, did a superb job to actually make the event happen. The whole event was conducted in a very pleasant setting, and all of the security and event staff were absolutely fantastic. There was none of the heavy-handed behaviour that you can often get at such a gathering and the crowd was just there to have a drink, a smoke, and a bloody good day of fantastic bands and music.

My baby wearing an original 1979 Demon t-shirt!
The whole event was compared by that one and only dribbling droogie, Krusher, who proceeded to get more and more drunk as the evening went on - even falling over on stage at one point! His language was, to say the least, blunt, but amusing. As for the cigarette which he passed around at the end of the gig...well, your guess is a good as mine...I had my daughter with me, after all.

About the photos...

The photos of Diamond Head represent only the second band I'd ever, successfully, taken pictures of (with the exception of the one picture of Qango!) at the time. The other being Demon, of course. The photos of Wishbone Ash and Girlschool are dreadful.
I seem to have come late to taking photos of bands. Years ago, when I first started going to gigs, taking a camera was a definite no-no. You could get a good frowning at for even trying to take a camera into a gig! Nowadays, no one seems to mind. I am still figuring out the etiquette of how to take a camera to a gig and take photos. I don't want to piss off anyone (promoters, bands, crowd) as that will not get me good pictures. Not sure yet the best way to do it...
