Sweden Rock Festival 2009: Johnny Winter - 5th June 2009

Approx Setlist: Hideaway / Blackjack / Redhouse / Crosscut Saw / All Over Now, Bony Maronie / Mojo Boogie.
OK. What do you say about a legend? Not much really. I’ll bet you’re glad about that…
Johnny Winter is one of the finest blues guitar players ever to pick up a guitar. No argument. He can still play, but he looks frail and his performance, whilst featuring some fantastic playing, lacks energy. That doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it, because I did and, in a smaller, more intimate club setting, it would have been fine but in a festival setting, I could see that people around about were not paying attention and chatting amongst themselves. It was distracting.
Johnny looked lost on the big stage, sitting on a chair, with the band close by him. Still, respect to the man and there was nothing wrong with his performance, it was the setting that didn’t work.
I am glad I saw him live though!
