PanAsia Update - 6th August 2011 (Siem Reap, Cambodia)
Hannah is out of hospital in Cambodia, has her passport back, and is on her way to Australia after securing a Passage to Bangkok, on the night bus. Come on people, Passage to Bangkok... Where are all you Rush fans?!
Anyhoo, they have a day(ish) in Bangkok to see things they were too drunk to when they first arrived, then a 9 hour flight to Brisbane.

Via phone call from Hannah at 10.03 BST 3rd August 2011
Firstly, DON'T PANIC!
Pan called from a hospital, in Siem Reap, Cambodia. She has been suffering from gastritis, rather badly, and went to the hospital, where they put her on an IV drip to rehydrate her and sort her out. She will be fine after a bit of fluid replacement and rest. She has to go back to the hospital again tomorrow for another IV drip, but she should be sorted out after that.
Personally, I think she just wanted to talk to her dad ;-) that and she isn't overly keen on hospitals and needles and shit!
Most importantly she will be fine. I suspect the ice cubes in her drink...
Feel free to send her hugs and messages via Facebook.
She has threatened to get a new phone, so texting thumbs at the ready. There will be a good 24 hour window before she loses it ;-)

PanAsia Update - 29th July 2011 (Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam)
I went to the war remanents museum today which was even more harrowing than the previous museums. Saw some pretty horrendously disfigured people from the aftermath of agent orange and parts of weapons and bombs used by americans and viet cong. I also learnt that 2 out of 3 million vietnamese killed in the war were civilians and about bob kerry and the massacre of innocent people that he ordered :c
Doing the tunnels tomorrow now, booked on a tour in the morning and tomorrow night we are taking the night bus to phnom penh. cant wait to see cambodia :D
Yehh I will definitely be returning to south east asia it's amazing i love it so much. Defos.

PanAsia Update - 28th July 2011 (Nha Trang, Vietnam)helloo! just got a bit of spare time to write...
im in nha trang at the moment, lovely beach down the coast of vietnam, ive just been the hoi an (the place with all the silk tailors) but i couldnt afford to get anything made i would love to have but another time ! before that i was in hanoi which was fucking crazy. the traffic is insane its like people have to walk with the cars and peds the only way to cross the road is to walk towards oncoming traffic like it's the most normal thing in the world. mental. there's like no traffic lights or system its just a free for all! hanoi was cool, i liked the business. we went to a night market which was awesome did i tell you bout my jimmy? i bought a fake jimmy choo bag in bangkok he's like the fourth member of our group now ha i keep referring to him like he's a person ha. we're only staying in nha trang for today and tomorrow and tomorrow night were taking an over night bus to (saigon) ho chi minh city and were going to the war remnants museum and the cu chi tunnels (underground tunnels where the viet cong used to live). ive learnt quite a lot about the war since being in vietnam i feel very cultural i must admit! ha. i went to hanoi hilton and learnt all about the american soldiers that got captured and held there during the war. and i am also reading a book about kim phuc the girl from the famous photograph that was burned by a napalm strike. its very interesting! right i think im done. feel like i just rambled immensly i hope it made sense i dont have time to go back and proof read haha. |

PanAsia Update - 26th July 2011 (Hanoi, Vietnam)Via Skype at 10:38 BST on 26th July 2011
Surprisingly, for Pan, a Skype call was rather easily arranged and conducted, on a sunny Tuesday morning. Specific details are scant, to say the least, but I did ascertain that she had been to prison since we last spoke. Hanoi Prison, that is. Some years ago, my eldest visited Alcatraz, my youngest (hereafter to be known as Hanoi Hannah) has been round the Hanoi Hilton. I always wanted to visit Eastern State in Philadelphia, but it was never open when I was there... All I could, meaningfully, get out of her were comparatives and superlatives, about how wonderful it is in Vietnam and how expensive it is to travel between the countries. She was waiting for a bus (I think) to take her them to Nha Trang when I spoke to her. What that means, I probably don't even want to know. She assures me that she is taking photos... I'll believe it when I see it. If anyone fancies donating to the PanAsia fund for wayward travellers, I take cash, PayPal, and Costa Coffee points. Next stops for our Wandering Conglers is Ho Chi Minh, then, into Cambodia, visit Phnom Penh, Angkor Wat, and back into Thailand. From then on, your guess is as good as what mine is... |

After several attempts, I managed to have a short conversation with Pan, on Skype.
She is still in Laos, but they are moving on to Vietnam later today.
The weather is hot and sticky, but she seems to be spending a lot of time messing around in water. She has tried ‘tubing’, which involves, a river, a big inner tube and a life jacket, Apparently, it is a great deal of fun!
The cost of daily living, she says, is low, but the cost of travelling around is more than she expected. Plans may change to stay longer in some places, in order to save on travel costs.
So, people, stay tuned.
She says: Hello!

I cant upload any photos without a cable or a memory card reader! Sorry!
Got smacked in the face today with an oar whilst white water rafting on my trekking experience and nearly broke my nose :c also gashed my gums, got a fat lip and have a massive toothache. Am ok but am in lots of face pain :c managed to smack a rock with my oar whilst going through the rapids and it smashed me in the face. How I dont look too bad is a miracle. Had my first ever nose bleed! Ah well. Pain killers are starting to kick in...
The trek was so hard, the first day we did a four and half hour trek through the jungle to stay with a hill tribe. It was so hot I've never pushed myself that hard in my life! Was fun saw some mad bugs and shit.
I went on a elephant in the water but I didnt go on the elephant ride because I didn't like the way they were being treated. It made me very sad :c they don't treat the animals very well here. They whack the elephants and sedate them and chain them up :'( :'(
Starting to feel a bit homesick. Missing everyone.
Heading to Laos tomorrow...
Love Me

PanAsia Update - 12th July 2011 (Chiang Mai, Thailand)So apparently no one knows where I am or what Im doing so here you go. Ive had actually no oppurtunity to use internet since koh samui so thats why I've not emailed.
Right, I am currently in Chiang Mai having spent a few wonderful days in the most beautiful island ever Koh Tao which followed a few very drunk days on the party island of Koh Samui. In hindsight Koh Samui was not that great, obviously it was still good but not really living up to the expectation. It is very westernised and boozy but we were with some of my friends and we just wanted to have a few more days with them after Bangkok. It took a 3 hour ferry, a taxi to the train station, a 4 hour wait in Chumphon, a six hour train to Bangkok, another 4 hour wait and a 12 hour train to get from Koh Tao to Chiang Mai. Thats the last big journey we will have to do now so thats a relief. Chiang Mai is pretty cool.. today we rented scooters (yes I had a helmet on and no I didn't drive it!) and drove up into the mountains to find the Pha Dam waterfall and a temple at the top, however we never found the temple but we did end up in the Doi Pui Hilltribe village! It was an absolutely amazing day. Bangkok was cool, we stayed on Khao San Road which was loads of fun and all we did really was get pissed and see some temples and yes I saw the big buddha, but we did go to this boss market, can't remember what it's called but I've bought myself a fake Jimmy Choo handbag for 1000 baht :] which is 20 quid. And it looks so real. Woo! |
Koh Tao is the most beautifulest cutest island I've ever seen, the main strip was lined with cutesy beach shack restaurants with fairy lights and lanterns everywhere and everyone was so lovely to us! It was a quiet but magical place. I did not want to leave!! But there will be more of that to come in Vietnam.
Hmmm. What else. Can't think right now but tomorrow I am going on a 2 day trek into the jungle and staying with the hilltribes for the night! Should be an experience. There will be elephant riding and much more.
Ok I think that' about it for now, so obviously I am no where near internet or signal in the mountains or jungle probably so don't worry!!
Lots of love.
Me. Xxxx
