Kill The Young
Setlist: Don't Want To Fight With You Anymore / Biting The Bullet / Losing My Religion / You've Got To Promise Me / Mr Bright Side
Where do I start? Firstly, thanks to Lucy for the setlist ;-)
I can't help but see these young lads as the little oiks that used to live down the road. Only kidding. Not really. Yeah, I am. One of them was in the same year as my eldest at school and they did live down the road. Then again, we've all passed a lot of water since then. I know I have. They always seemed like nice boys to me though. Of course, the brothers Gorman are all grown-up now and rather successful, particularly in ffrance, where they have just come off tour. Their set was somewhat impromptu, due to one of their number missing his flight. I said I wouldn't say anything about Lars Ulrich and Metallica at Donington a few years back but, I lied. Come on! How can I pass up a chance to have a go at Lars? I will never forgive myself for not kicking his skinny ass in 1980 when I had the chance... But, I digress. I know. It's so unlike me... |

Kill The Young is Olly, Dylan, and Tom Gorman, ably assisted by Jake Roche at the live shows, and their music is a melange of REM, Radiohead, and Smashing Pumpkins, or so it says in their blurb, and that sounds about right. I wouldn't class myself as an expert in that particular musical genre – it kinda passed me by in the '90s - but, neither do I dislike the sounds they make. In fact, I rather like their angst-ridden, protest everything, like nothing tunes. They do it well and it suits them and appeals to their audience.
I can't really write that much about their set because, apart from the REM song, it was all new to me. If you like that style of music, you will like Kill The Young. And, so it was on the day. Everyone seemed to be enjoying the music greatly and singing along. I can't deny that they are quite catchy tunes so, I have to bow to superior knowledge and accept that others know better. Occasionally.
I would like to see Kill The Young at full strength though, playing a proper set: Yeah, I think I'd quite enjoy that.
