Back on the street
I had wanted to check out the Chanin building and the Chrysler building but preparations for the following day’s ceremonies had meant traffic being diverted and some roads were unsociably busy as they took the flow of traffic. One such road was 42nd street and try as we might, we couldn’t get anywhere near.
Nevertheless, we did have some fun trying, taking in a variety of famous lanmarks in the process:
Then as time was getting on, we headed over to have a look at Times Square, before making for the Lincoln Tunnel and Newark Airport.

One such road was 42nd street and try as we might, we couldn’t get anywhere near.
Nevertheless, we did have some fun trying, taking in a variety of famous lanmarks in the process:
- 6th Avenue
- Radio City Music Hall
- NBC Studios
- Rockerfeller Center
- The United Nations General Secretariat Building
- United Nations Plaza
- Trump World Tower.
Then as time was getting on, we headed over to have a look at Times Square, before making for the Lincoln Tunnel and Newark Airport.

Now, I have seen Piccadilly Circus in London and it isn’t a patch on Times Square.
From mocked-up Cadillacs adorning the sides of buildings, to huge flashing signs and monster billboards, Times Square is so astounding, probably because it is actually so much smaller than you imagine it to be. No sooner are you in the “square” and then you’re through it.
Lionel drove around the block so we could do it all again, from the other side. This wasn’t just a mere whim, I’ll have you know. This was a matter of life and death.
On the trip to Providence I had missed the photograph of Titan Towers (head office of World Wrestling “Entertainment”) and if I missed WWE New York, I was deader than Michael Jackson’s next album. As we came back through the square I looked out of my window and saw this ugly, gothic looking thing of a building, which I thought looked quite interesting so I took a picture of it. As we came past it, I recognised the logo and hastily snapped another picture and then, pointing the camera behind me, upside down, I took a third and final shot of WWE New York.
This last shot (above) is probably one of the best photos I’ve ever taken.

Approaching the Lincoln Tunnel, we got stopped at roadworks and as I took a picture of a “Don’t Honk” sign I noticed that there was this huge Sopranos poster on a billboard, advertising the season opener, the following Sunday. I just had to have a picture of that. I mean, who wouldn’t?
